Water Lily Harvest: Mekong Delta Colours
Harvesting water lilies is an ancient tradition performed in the delta of the Mekong River. Women in white conical hats, gently propel their long wooden boats through the profusion of water lily flowers which accumulate in the Mekong Delta during the rainy season.
The harvest occurs each year between June and November. It is then that the floods raise the level of the delta and the white and pink flowers bloom.
White water lilies are called ‘ghost or spirit flowers’ as they only bloom at night. My subject of choice for this image are the vibrant pink lilies.
A kaleidoscope of colour in the fertile delta of one of the worlds most important rivers. Simply Stunning!
