I drew this picture on my iPad just for you.
I have very fond memories of my time as a young girl, barefoot, with sand between my toes. Our parents were in the local fishing club and so we spent most of our weekends at the beach. I remember playing on the sand and swimming around our parents’ feet as they fished. People would tell my parents that we would chase the fish away but time after time this theory was proven incorrect as Mum would always bring in more fish than those standing by themselves. When my Mum passed I asked my brothers to write a memory of Mum that I could include in her eulogy. Without discussing it, all three of us wrote that one of our fondest memories of Mum and our childhood was that Mum would pack breakfast and take us to the beach for a swim before school. We would emerge from our morning dip refreshed and energised. After we would eat our weetbix on the sand under the shade of the coastal she-oaks, have a shower, put on our school uniforms and then Mum would drive us to school. This picture reminds me of those times. Barefoot Summers……thanks Mum.
